Opiate addiction is now
widely accepted as a disease. Heroin addiction specifically can be characterized
as a chronic, progressive, and often-fatal disorder.
The principle diagnostic features are obsession, compulsion, and continued
use despite adverse consequences (loss of control). Our program provides
counseling services to help the patient make the life-style changes needed
to address the many dimensions of this disorder.
These programs include medically supervised withdrawal and methadone
maintenance. Family members, including significant others have always
been welcome and are encouraged to be part of a loved-one's treatment
experience. MCAC places emphasis on in-house individual counseling and
case management. This includes medical monitoring of dosage and addiction
related illnesses, group involvement for interested patients, regular
therapeutic support outside the facility, and when appropriate, referrals
for psychiatric screening with pharmacological intervention.
When you choose to become a patient at MCAC you are entering a modality
that is difficult to simply "quit." Methadone is a powerful
drug with potential for abuse. It could be extremely harmful if used improperly
or by the wrong persons. Methadone should never be stopped abruptly or
reduced too fast. That is why the staff at MCAC ask that all patient's
work closely with counselors and medical staff in tailoring dosages to
individual patient needs. Using methadone as a tool for recovering from
opiate addiction requires motivation and patient involvement. Our policies,
program recommendations, and guidelines are designed to assist you in
your commitment to a life of recovery.
We are here to serve to the best of our ability and are prepared to combat
not only the physical addiction, but the underlying causes and conditions.
We are dedicated to the journey of recovery and healing for the whole
person, mind, body and spirit, and welcome those who are ready to embark
on the same journey and live a life free of substance abuse.
